The United States Postal Service announced this week that it was tossing out its rule that that stamps can only feature dead individuals and is asking the public for suggestions on who should become the first living person to receive the honor.
And Lady Gaga is in the running! The singer, who won more than 100 awards in just three years and was named the world’s most powerful celebrity by TIME and Forbes, is among popular candidates on USPS’s Facebook page as well as the readers’ poll on MSNBC. Other nominees include Steve Jobs, Bill Gates, Bob Dylan and Mark Zuckerberg.
“Having really nice, relevant, interesting, fun stamps might make a difference in people’s decisions to mail a letter,” Stamp Services manager Stephen Kearney said in a statement. Postmaster General Patrick Donahoe added: “This change will enable us to pay tribute to individuals for their achievements while they are still alive to enjoy the honor.”
Do you think Lady Gaga deserves to be honored on American stamps? If so, be sure to send your thoughts and suggestions to USPS via Facebook or Twitter.
