Hosted by Japanese pop sensation AKB48 and featuring live performances from international, regional and Japanese artists, the staging of MTV VIDEO MUSIC AID JAPAN will be the culmination of MTV Japan’s MUSIC OF HOPE campaign, the multi-platform response to the March 11 earthquake and tsunami. Designed to inspire and rally young people to contribute time or funds to recovery and rebuilding efforts, MUSIC OF HOPE will feature inspirational music videos, live performances, artist interviews, exclusive news and stories about artists and young people who have been impacted by the disaster.
Performers for the event include Lady Gaga, Namie Amuro, Exile, Monkey Majik, Kana Nishino, One Night Only, SHINee, Girls’ Generation, and Tokio Hotel. A live stream of the red carpet can be viewed after the jump.
The VMAJs (Video Music Awards Japan) are collecting messages of hope for Japan. Tweet yours using hashtag #vmajmoh. For more information, log on to www.mtvjapan.com/vmaj/en.
