The Italian-American singer is expected to appear at the city’s Circus Maximus on Saturday at the close of EuroPride 2011, being hosted this year by the Italian capital. The U.S. Ambassador to Italy had confirmed the news saying that Lady Gaga has accepted the invitation to participate in the gay pride parade.

David Thorne said in a statement on Monday that he is “very proud to have an Italian-American artist of her stature” come to the Italian capital. He quoted U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton as saying “human rights are gay rights and gay rights are human rights.”

“Following an invite by the committee, Lady Gaga has decided to take part in EuroPride, confirming her support for the LGBT (lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender) community,” organizers said in a statement.
